Dr Annika here,

Have you ever wondered why so many business leaders struggle with their sleep? Are you like many other lady business leaders who get up every morning and feel so tired and don’t have any energy?

You’ve been awake half the night thinking about work and all those deadlines you’ve got to meet. Maybe some of your employees don’t do their work and sometimes you even do their work for them just so it gets completed on time!

You feel it’s a struggle everyday to survive from one day to the next. It’s just a big mess and you want to pull the sheet over your head and just stay in bed. I know. I’ve been there!

I’m Dr Annika and I help lady business leaders just like you create the best stress free life. You can get yourself a free report at the bottom of this article that goes into greater detail about how to do it.

Let’s talk about stress and your sleep. A few years ago, I was working in a health clinic and I was over loaded with work. Somebody else had control of the calendar and I had no control over how much work I had to complete. I had three kids at home who I loved, but they also needed my help.

Of course I wanted to help them but every single morning I was sitting on the side of my bed and thinking how am I going to survive another day? It was a total disaster! I was so tired and slowly drifting towards depression. Nothing was fun anymore and I realised I had to change my life.

So I started to read magazines and articles about how I was going to figure it all out out and improve my sleep. And most of the magazines were talking about machines that were supposed to help with your sleep. And of course there was a lot about sleeping pills.

And as a Doctor, I know a lot about sleeping pills. I know they’re not the solution for great long term sleep. They’re a short term fix, and that’s not what I was after.

So I had to figure out something else. Have you ever experienced short term solutions to problems before? Even though you know it’s not going to last for the long term? You need to be looking for a solution that will change your life. Throughout my search for sleep improvement, I was getting scared. I was asking myself “was it going to be like this for the rest of my life?” It’s really hard when you’ve got no direction or don’t know what to do.

Can you imagine how it would be waking up energised and full of life knowing you’ve got a great day ahead of you? What I found out was remarkable. I figured out I wasn’t supposed to be focused on my lack of sleep. I was supposed to be focusing on the good stuff in my life. I figured my best option was to create a gratitude ritual.

It’s really easy to do too and I’ll show you how now..

When I was going to bed, I took the blanket and pulled it up to my shoulders and found myself a comfortable sleeping position. I then closed my eyes and  started to talk to myself in my head about all the things I was grateful for. I was thankful for this comfortable bed, the soft pillow and the sheets I have. You don’t have to think about beds and sheets. You could be grateful for your loving family or the job you have.

Notice all the bad things that keep popping up that are keeping you awake at night. You have to kindly push these thoughts to one side and say no to them.

Focus on being grateful for the good things in your life.

If you wake in the middle of the night, struggling to sleep, I would recommend you do the same thing to help you drift off back to sleep. I promise you, this will make massive differences in your life!

This was my number one thing to do to improve my sleep. It’s not the only thing you can do or have to do. You have to keep repeating this to make it a permanent habit.

The next thing I did was to clear my room of all the stuff I had.

The sleeping room is supposed to be for sleeping and your brain needs to have a clear space.

So I cleared out all the stuff that wasn’t helping improve my sleep. I kept the important stuff in there like my alarm clock and a book. I didn’t leave my phone or computer in there. They don’t belong in your sleeping room. Get them out.

I started to do many more things like looking at the big picture of what my life to look like. I cleared my life of all the junk. I’ve found these steps so powerful in improving my sleep and many of my clients have found the same too.

To make it a lasting change you must keep repeating the steps every single day so they become ingrained habits.
