This is going to make some of you laugh out loud. That is what I did when I realized this. You know, I had a belief about something and I didn’t feel I had the time to look into it. Everyone else talked good about it so I reckon it is a good thing. But I thought it was out of my reach – and this has been going on my whole adult life. Because I heard about this all the way back when the Beatles did this. But it all seemed so oriental and so hard.
Until a month ago.
meditation

I was at Brendon Burchard event High Performance Academy and that event is about personal development. Brendon introduced all these odd tools to use to keep the energy up during the day. All of a sudden he says we are going to do a meditation. He asks how many in the audience meditate and more than half the room raised their hands.
I get all cold inside and wonder how I can tackle this; I don’t have a mantra – how do you do it?
Then he says the word RELEASE: “Use the word RELEASE!” What? I don’t need a mantra word dedicated for me? He goes on: “Just close your eyes and repeat saying RELEASE slowly to shut out your thoughts. If you start thinking just head back to RELEASE, don’t judge yourself. Let’s do it for 10 minutes.”

So we did it for 10 minutes and it was very refreshing.

So at 60+ I reveal a secret well hidden for me. Not a secret because it is really hidden but because I got an impression when I was young that this was hard and needed special knowledge. That is how it was presented back in the -60 and -70ies. You were told to have a spiritual leader who would give your personal mantra to you and there were rules. In my world of medicine and science that was a bit wooho.

During all these years the popularity of meditation has come and gone several times. I have several times been introduced to guided meditations and loved them. They are easy to do – just follow the voice, listen to the message and your brain will relax for a moment. Funny enough I have even produced my own – The guided spring meditation –

you can get it for free hereSpring Meditation

But as soon as meditation as a relax method for people one and one have been discussed I have always just said it is very good for you if you know how to do it – because I only ever heard good things about doing it. But it never struck my mind to look into it myself – it had this wooho mark in my mind. Until now ………. Today I do the above mentioned exercise 10 minutes every day and wished I would have known earlier. Today I teach this simple method to my clients. And I have laughed a lot at my innocence and misbelief – it was really a true limiting belief.

Lesson learned: You don’t know until you know! Try to scrape on the surface of things you find odd and maybe you like it. Or not – but you can make a good decision on the facts.

What limiting beliefs do you have? Have you ever experienced something like this? Believing one thing for a long time to find out one day it would be a good thing for you. Please feel free to tell you story in the comment field. I would love to hear it.

To your success – and keep smiling!
