Three Tips to Get Enough Quality Sleep
Being a business leader means needing to be productive and being productive means that you need to make sure you’re getting enough sleep. I’m sure you’ve struggled in the past with getting a full night’s sleep. And even if you think you’re getting a full night’s sleep, your brain might still be switched on.
That leaves you in a bit of a predicament…because you aren’t really getting the ‘quality’ sleep you need as a business leader.
When you’re in a stressed out state, it’s often extremely difficult to switch your thinking and find ways to de-stress. And I know how it feels…
You don’t know what to do
You don’t know where to even begin
And the more stressed you are, the harder it is to think clearly……
If you’re a business leader who travels a lot just like me, then you’ll know just how stressful it can sometimes feel. Something as simple as being away from your normal business location can wear you out and make you even more tired than normal.
I do an awful lot of travelling around the world to see many of my clients. But also to attend speaking events and for my own self development too. I’m a firm believer you have to invest in yourself if you want to teach others what you know.
Time. Our most valuable resource. Something that ticks away day after day. But unlike money or materialistic items, we can’t buy more time.
We’ve all got the same amount of time in a day -24 hours. No one has more and you don’t have less. It’s equal. But it all comes down to prioritising your time. If you ever find yourself saying ‘I don’t have the time to look after myself or I can’t, I have to work all the time’, then I’ve written this with you in mind. If you’re not taking ownership of your time, somebody else will.
Sometimes it can feel like stress has the upper hand on us. If you’re a business leader stress is something that you’re going to come up against at times. But there are some simple and easy ways to harness stress and keep it under control. Now, if you know me, I’m always talking about treating stress on a deeper level. There’s no such thing as a ‘quick fix’.
But today, I’d love to share with you 3 quick tips to use as a temporary fix when you’re in moments of stress. Just remember, these tips won’t cure stress 100% but they will give you a much needed sense of relief.

I’ve been like that for decades.
I’ve avoided meditation until now. I used to see it as something scary. Until I started using the practices daily in my life then everything changed.
Have you ever been stressed out or maxed out or maybe even on the verge to burnt out? You feel stuck in the Hamster Wheel and can’t see the way out. It just goes on and on. Is it even possible to get out?
A few years ago I would have agreed with you. I was losing my spark and happiness from all the stress in my life as a family doctor. Work, husband, kids, household work – I just felt an endless amount of “must do” and “should do” that I couldn’t handle. Life was not fun anymore and I was heading towards depression.
I want to ask you a question.
Are you confused like most people are today by all the supplements and pills you’re supposed to take? And they’ve all got difficult names to pronounce and remember. It’s really hard to know when enough is enough.
You’re not alone.
As many women do, I slowly but surely gained weight over the years. It kind of creeps onto you so slow that you don’t really notice, right! I was close to reach the fat level on the BMI scale and my clothes were getting smaller and smaller. Or was it me getting bigger? Yes I believe it was, I was 87kg. All of a sudden my wardrobe was flooded by too small items. Perfectly good ones that I liked so did not throw them away. They just kept lying there – as a bad conscience for me and to my husband’s despair. I am a squirrel – he is not!
Anyway, in late August -15 I was planning my upcoming trip to USA. I was booked to speak at the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce in San Fransisco and I was looking for clothes to wear at this occasion. That was a wakeup call for me! If I was to stand in front of the audience, I didn’t want to feel big and having to keep my belly in all the time. So I had to do something, right?
More interesting information from the stress survey coming up. When you are stressed out you usually know because of different symptoms or feelings. I listed a few in my stress survey and asked which of these people would feel when stressed out. They were allowed to choose as many as they wanted from the list, so the total is much more than 100%.
Guess what was the most common answer?
If you said sleep disturbance you were right. 70 % claimed they had problems with their sleep. I am not surprised, since stress keeps us awake at night with all the questions and worry about whatever is floating around in the brain. Also the high levels of stress hormones in the body affects the sleep negatively. So bad sleep is induced from 2 ways and it is an early sign. If we can be much more observant on when sleep deteriorates a lot was won. Also it would be good if we can be more careful about our sleep – it is so vital for a good life that you should do everything in your power to make your sleep perfect. It is so very important to keep the sleep in good shape because our sleep is the “cleaning system”, doing housecleaning in the brain during nights so to speak.
